Among the investigated functional MRI techniques, a speficic focus is given to Diffusion-Weighted MRI (DW-MRI)<\/li><li>Implementation of standardized and innovative image processing approaches, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7832399\/\">radiomics and machine learning<\/a>, for patient stratification and treatment response prediction (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cartcas.polimi.it\/artificial-intelligence\/\">Radiomics and Artificial Intelligence<\/a><\/strong>)<\/li><li>Implementation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/31051372\">personalized tumor control probability<\/a> and radiobiological models, by improving state-of-the-art methods with patient-specific image-related information<\/li><li>Digital phantoms of <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/33369744\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/33369744\/\">micro-structural models<\/a> are combined to Monte Carlo simulations of diffusion-weighted MR signals to better understand the interaction of the radiation beam with the tissue, especially for particle therapy applications.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Projects on multi-parametric imaging rely on the collaboration with the National Centre of Oncological Hadrontherapy (<a href=\"https:\/\/fondazionecnao.it\/it\/\">CNAO<\/a>, Pavia, Italy) for data collection. A recent collaboration has been also established with the Centre for Medical Image Computing (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucl.ac.uk\/medical-image-computing\/\">CMIC<\/a>) of the University College of London (UCL, London, UK) for its experience on Monte Carlo simulations in DW-MRI. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, activities on multi-parametric imaging benefit from the recent funded AIRC project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deib.polimi.it\/eng\/research-projects\/details\/405\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.deib.polimi.it\/eng\/research-projects\/details\/405\">TAILOR<\/a> \u201cA technical framework for combining multi-parametric imaging with advanced modelling in personalized radiotherapy\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"669\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cartcas.polimi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Multi-parametric1-1024x669.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-893\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.cartcas.polimi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Multi-parametric1-1024x669.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.cartcas.polimi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Multi-parametric1-300x196.png 300w, http:\/\/www.cartcas.polimi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Multi-parametric1-768x502.png 768w, http:\/\/www.cartcas.polimi.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Multi-parametric1.png 1359w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Exploitation of different image modalities, such as Computed Tomography (CT), anatomical and quantitative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), for radiotherapy treatment personalization.
